Barninger & Couch

In the spring of 2007, Jeffrey and Justin were asked whether they could design and produce in a very short time period several pieces of furniture that would act as the staging area of a red carpet event for a high-profile media entity. What emerged was the Negative line. And while funding for the project never materialised, Jeffrey and Justin loved the designs and produced two of the chair designs for a show at Honfleur Gallery.

The line is based on the idea of having a very sleek, simple box shape with very ornate classical furniture designs cut out of them. Thus the negative spaces are really what give the pieces their presence and character while the true form of the thing, the positive, fades into the background.

Here are the Shield Back design in black and the Chippendale in white. Both were made of CNC cut Baltic Birch ply with formica facing.
